The City completed an RFP process and selected SSA Landscape Architects, Inc. to complete the Callaghan playground master plan.
During the month of October 2008, the City conducted several workshops to obtain community input to complete the Callaghan Park Playground Master Plans. At that time, the Parks & Community Services staff collected community input for critical design elements and playground ideas for the future renovation of Callaghan Park.
Project Funding:
The $50,000 contract with SSA Landscape Architects, Inc for the development of the Master Plan and construction drawings was funded by the 2008 Community Development Block Grant.The estimated construction cost of this project is $1.1 million. Funding sources include the 2002 Per Capita Grant of $220,000; the 2002 Roberti-Z'Berg-Harris Grant of $129,842; the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development CDBG-R of $ 229,600 and $520,558 in Park Development Funds may be applied in order to complete this project.
Project Description:
Current Callaghan Park amenities under renovation include the basketball courts, playground areas for toddlers and children 5-12 years of age, park entrances and entry area to the recreation center.
We are also adding other playground features that promote family health and physical fitness by adding three stand-alone exercise apparatuses will be located in the playground for 5 to 12 year olds.
Community will be able to enjoy more picnic benches, trees and a new plaza area featured at the entrance to the recreation center, a lighted pathway will traverse from Sudden Street to Brennan Street.
